D.O. Montsant
This young Catalan Denomination, which has enjoyed a tremendous growth, had already acquired reputation and prestige before its recognition as an appellation of origin such as in the area of Falset (DO Tarragona).
It’s more than 1,800 hectares of vineyards stretch along spectacular hills, sharing its slopes with almonds, olives and pine trees. Although the terrain of this D.O. borders the D.O. Ca Priorat, it’s wines have a distinctive identity. The soils are composed of limestone roscks over a granite base and slate.

GRAPESThe most common Montsant wines are the reds, balanced and aromatic. These are drawn primarily from traditional varieties such as Grenache and Carignan. The white wines are produced mainly from traditional varieties of Garnacha Blanca and Macabeo. They are elegant wines with subtle aromas. Rosé wines are gaining presence year after year with intense aromas of wild berries produced mainly with Grenache and syrah. Today, the denomination has also good input from foreign varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Chardonnay, among others. |
