The Wine Region

The “Denominación de Origen” (DO) Penedés has a surface area under vine of more than 27,000 hectares on a surface of 1,557 squared kilometres divided in three sub-regions: Alt (Upper) Penedés, Central Penedés, and Baix (Lower) Penedés. Its vineyards extend from Barcelona to Tarragona. The influence of the Mediterranean Sea and the sun makes the region an area with a mild warm climate suitable for growing white grape varieties such as Xarel-lo, Macabeo and Parellada, and also red varieties such as Tempranillo, Garnacha, Cariñena and Monastrell. Recently, foreign grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc or Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling or Gewürstraminer have been planted and have acclimatised well.

The Tour

We’ll show you the wine culture existent within this region through two great wineries, each totally different to the other. On one hand, you will learn the wine elaboration process of a winery that defends ecologic practices. On the other hand, you will visit another winery that elaborates great wines, some of them have been scored with more than 90 points by Robert Parker. The visit will include a brief description of the family history, visit of the vineyards surrounding the cellar, explanation of the factors that influence on the quality of their wines, and of course, wine tasting. Between one winery and the other, we’ll take you to one of the best restaurants in the area to enjoy a superb lunch. During the journey, you’ll be able to observe the beautiful landscape and cultural aspects of this region.

Departure from Barcelona in the morning towards the Penedés wine region.

Guided visit of cellar. Wine tasting.

Afterwards, typical lunch at great restaurant.

Following lunch, guided visit of another of the great wineries of the DO ("Denominación de Origen") Penedés. Wine tasting.

Return to Barcelona (to the point of origin) near 19 hours..
