FREQUENT ASKED QUESTIONS

In this section you will find answers to questions or concerns you may have about our tours. And if you don’t, please send us an email with your questions to info@viavinum.es

Do I need to be a wine expert in order to join one of your tours?

Not at all! At the moment that you contact us for a reservation, we will send you a questionnaire where we will ask you your knowledge on wine, so we can advice our wine experts in advance and suit their comments according to your level or the groups level. If you do not know much about wine and the process of making it, there is no doubt that you will learn a lot during your wine tour. If you are a true fan of wine and have some experience, you will strengthen your knowledge base and have the opportunity to ask any questions that you might have.

What type of tours do you offer? Are they programmed circuits?

No. Our tours are not circuits scheduled throughout the year. Generally, our tours are custom made, from one-day excursions to longer trips. Depending on your request, we will send you our Request Form in which we’ll ask you to respond to some questions, such as: date of trip, number of persons in your party, number of rooms, destination of preference, city/country of origin, if you wish private transport or rent-a-car, etc. This way we’ll try to adjust to your needs and wishes and offer you a tailor made program.

Also, we offer special packages in different wine regions which normally have a valid date. These packages are published in the section Offers of our website and they generally refer to seasonal getaways or ideas for weekend or short breaks.

Are the tours very intensive? Will I get some chance to relax?

We understand that these are part of your holidays, therefore we want you to come and enjoy not only the winery visits but also the tour in general. Naturally, you will have a schedule for the visits to wineries, monuments and restaurants, however, you will also experience relaxed wine tastings and enjoyable meals without looking at your watch, aside from going for walks in the towns, time for shopping, and more. We only hope that you end our tours with a better understanding of the magnificent wines of Spain and all that surrounds them. Above all, we want you to have a great time discovering special hidden places in Spain and enjoy them from a cultural and gastronomical perspective.

What is included in your wine tours?

Our tours combine not only guided visits to renowned wineries, vineyards visits and wine tasting, but also accommodation in charming or luxury hotels, meals of traditional cuisine or gourmet, cultural visits, and other services or activities (private transport with professional driver, rent-a-car, air balloon rides, spa, golf, etc.). Since the majority of our programs are custom made, you can request to us what you really wish and we’ll try to offer it to you.

Depending on the program, we also include basic travel assistance insurance. However, it is recommended that you contract an insurance with broader medical coverage abroad for your security. Also, we recommend that you contract a trip cancellation insurance, that if you wish, at VIAVINUM we can arrange it.

To summarize, you can check what is included in each program by reading the section "This program includes" detailed in each tour or offer published in our web or in the personnalized proposal that we send you following your request. Additionally, you must read and have in mind the Important Notes specified for each program.

How do you choose the wineries, hotels and restaurants included in the tours?

For the wineries, the selection is made considering the following: the prestige of the winery and the wine it elaborates, well cared for and good facilities, the design and beauty of its surroundings and a nice atmosphere, the ability of the staff to provide a fine and experienced visit and who can also offer the visit in several languages.

Concerning the hotels, we select those with a special charm, luxurious or with modern facilities that offer services of great quality. We’re constantly looking for new properties with beautiful surroundings, with great style and personality and that also provide impeccable service.

We also make sure that the restaurants we offer have the highest quality. We take you to the most renowned and exclusive restaurants where you will experience typical or gourmet cuisine. Aside from this, we also choose them for having a nice atmosphere and an exquisite service. Not only Michelin starred which of course are worth being visited, but also local restaurants that offer great traditional dishes.

Do you offer one day tours as well?

Of course! We offer one day wine tours visiting wineries and vineyards and towns of cultural interest in Madrid, Ribera de Duero or Toledo, if you’re in Madrid, of the Penedés if you’re in Barcelona, or in La Rioja if you’re in Bilbao. We not only offer one day trips but more extensive tours as well.  Please go to our section of Suggested packagesand of One day trips where you can find a description of some of our tours. If you cannot find exactly what you’re looking for, please consult us at info@viavinum.es to organize a custom made program for you.  We are more than happy to create a tour that best meets your needs.

What clothing should I wear for the wine tour?

The most important thing is to wear comfortable non-slippery shoes (floor can be slippery in wineries!) since you will visit historical towns and villages, wineries, oil mills, etc. Furthermore, please note that the temperature in some wineries might be lower than the temperature outside due to achieving a better elaboration of wine apart from the winery being damp itself so we recomend you to bring warm clothing.

Are all meals included? What do they include?

Not necessarily. For more details about the meals included in your trip you should read the part entitled “This program includes:” because not all tours include the same services. Generally, for the meals that are included in the price of the trip it is clearly mentioned if these include beverages and which beverages are included (wine proportion is usually one bottle for two-three people).  Otherwise, you must ask and be sure in advance what is included in the menu that will be served so that you avoid being charged with consumption made extra, amount that you will have to pay to the restaurant or the agency.

Wines included in meals are wines of quality normally from the wine region you are visiting.

The meals are at renowned restaurants where typical gastronomy is preserved or specialists in gourmet cuisine, depending on the program. Sometimes you will have a choice of dishes, and others, especially when lunches are offered at some wineries or in the case of groups, everyone will eat the same menu chosen.

What if there is someone within the group with special dietary restrictions?

No problem at all if you have to follow a special diet or ir you’re vegetarian. In VIAVINUM we try to solve these kind of requests for our clients. Almost always it is possible to substitute a dish or meal if you cannot eat it for any reason. You just have to let us know in advance, and we will do the rest.
