The Baco spirit impregnates the summer festivities

The Baco spirit impregnates the summer festivities In the summer, the municipalities of our country awaken from their serene ambiance to start a celebration that will transform the heated months into the host of activities like bullfighting shows, processions, parades and fireworks.

The fun and happiness that are found in towns all across Spain give sense to a national journey of celebrations that any tourist can discover with its peculiarities, traditional dishes and unique traditions, but with some things in common: none of them will miss the music, tradition and good wine. In our land, with centuries of vinegrowing tradition, a fine wine is never absent from a good toast in a celebration, but during summer time wine has the leading role, alone or accompanied by other summer holiday traditional ingredients.

One of the most famous, “La Batalla del Vino de Haro”, declared National Tourist Interest, deserves to be experienced, at least once in a lifetime. This village at La Rioja wine region is a producer of excellent wines, and their wines serve as weapons in the fight to relive the old tradition to claim Riscos de Bilibo as their own. But every territory of Spain shows its own charm in every celebration. Málaga and Chiclana, the Fiesta del Vino Fino del Puerto de Santa María or Festival del Moscatel de Chipiona reflect the spirit of Andalusia and combine the pleasure of their wines with the Rocieras Festivals, flamenco shows, farolillos and flowers can be seeing competing with the luxurious carriages in the streets.

The Galician tradition bets on the gastronomic pleasure as a perfect complement to its five Designations of Origin. The Wine fair of Ribeiro, in Ribadavia and The Albariño, in Cambados, are the most popular, but throughout the summer a good number of towns in Galicia have the gastronomic week where their fresh wines are accompanied by typical products of the area like the “empanada” , and octopus or “tetilla” cheese.

Some Designations of Origin have set up events using the summer cycle to spread the virtues of their wines and in collaboration with some entertainment, music and fun. The ViJazz Festival gathers the best wines from “Vilafranca del Penedes” and wine cellars in the region with local products and unparalleled jazz concerts in the magical environment of the “Plaza de Jaume I”, while the area of Lleida makes a sure bet for classical music in “Tasta l'Opera” (Try Opera) and shows that combine theme dinners of pates, Iberian jam and cheese. The Somontano Wine Festival mixes creative and traditional “tapas” with the best Designation of Origin wines, creating a first-class food and wine pairing, with melodic groups for all tastes, from Luis Cobos or Paloma San Basilio, to Dover or Amaral.

In “Castilla La Mancha”, they opted for the seventh art in the European Film Festival "Wines of Castilla-La Mancha”, in Jumilla they chose the classical concerts in all their wineries "Between wine and Music" and in the village of Hita in Guadalajara, for the theatre at its “Medieval Festival”, or simply promoting the best wines in the area, as is done in "The Great Wine Festival of Tenerife" or "TheWine Show from the land of Cangas". And these are just some of the colourful, joyful and wine oriented festivities that make bigger the list of reasons to spend these holidays in our country, because no matter the destination, wine lovers will find a tribute to Baco filled with fun.
