The Wine Region

The old history of the wines of Jerez is full of conquests and commercial trades abroad, no wonder the sherry is one of the most recognized and valued Spanish wines outside our borders.

The wine making region of the D.O. Jerez-Xerez-Sherry and Manzanilla of Sanlucar de Barrameda is situated at the western side of the province of Cadiz, in an area that embraces nine town councils. Nevertheless, the producing wine cellars can only be located in three historical councils of the D.O. Jerez, which are: Jerez de la Frontera, Sanlucar de Barrameda and Puerto de Santa Maria, a triangle that makes up the geographical division of the Superior Jerez.

The vineyards of this D.O. are extended between the Guadalquivir and Guadalete Rivers where the predominant grape is the "Palomino Fino", although there is also a small portion of grapes of Pedro Ximenez (PX) and Moscatel.

The types of wines that are produced within this region are those named Fortified Wines or "Vinos Generosos" and Liquorosos, such as the Finos, Manzanillas, Amontillados, Palo Cortado, and the Creams, without forgetting the PX and the Moscatel. There are also elaborated fresh and beautifully balanced white wines of the year from the grape Palomino.

The Tour

Our tour will take place mainly on the three localities of the "Denominación de Origen" (the Sherry triangle) mentioned previously. Lodging is at a charming 4 star property in the centre of Jerez de la Frontera where you will feel totally relaxed.

This Viavinum tour is a perfect combination of wine culture, gastronomy, sightseeing, relax and fun. You'll learn how these unique fortified wines are elaborated through the explanations provided by experts during the guided cellar visits. You'll enjoy gourmet and regional food, visit a beautiful country estate (Natural reserve) on a horse carriage, and more.

The Itinerary

First Day - Thursday
Meet and assist at the hotel, a nice 4 star located in the centre of Jerez.

Dinner at one of the most well known restaurants of the city.
Return to hotel.

Second Day - Friday
Breakfast. Guided visit of one of the best wineries of Jerez followed by a wine tasting.
Tapas lunch at the centre of Jerez.

Transfer to the white villages, Arcos de la Frontera and Zahara de la Sierra, in the Sierra of Grazalema. You'll enjoy of a marvellous landscape. We'll stop at Arcos de la Frontera for a nice walk. Afterwards, transfer to the Natural Park of Grazalema where the oil mill is located. Here you will learn about the elaboration method of the extra virgin olive oil from the DO Sierra de Cádiz, and taste it. A relaxing afternoon at incomparable surroundings in entire nature.

Back to the hotel. Dinner on your own.

Third Day - Saturday
Following a fresh buffet breakfast, transfer to Sanlúcar de Barrameda. You will enjoy a pleasant guided visit at a magnificent old winery of this coastal location followed by a tasting of its wines.

Then, we will take you to the stunning estate which is nature reserve, at approximately 1 ½ hour distance. You'll be surprised by the nature surrounding this marvellous hacienda.

You'll enjoy a delicious lunch, and afterwards you will have a relaxing ride in horse carriage to overlook its forest and species.
Optional: For those who enjoy playing golf, they will be able to play at least 9 holes at the course of this hacienda.

Transfer to the hotel in Jerez de la Frontera after this visit. For dinner, you are free to make your own arrangements. We will give you our list of recommended places to visit, for dinner or to enjoy a good flamenco show.

fourth Day - Sunday
Following breakfast, transfer to Puerto de Santa María to visit another famous great cellar. Wine tasting.
Gourmet lunch at one of the best restaurants of the region.
Back to the hotel. Free time. Dinner on your own.

Optional: If you like golf, we can arrange your tee time for a 9 hole game on any of the nice golf courses surrounding.

Farewell dinner at the hotel.

fifth Day - Monday
Breakfast and check-out.
